Reschedule to Sunday - Three Waterfalls Along No. Harper's Creek Hike

Hike is rescheduled to Sunday July 22. Weather Alert: Thunderstorm probability and flash flood warnings on Saturday.

Difficulty: Strenuous in four places, moderate hiking otherwise. Approximately 10.5 miles.

Be advised, there are 13 stream crossings. Footwear (hiking sandals, waterproofs, cross trainers) that can get wet is required. We DO NOT have time to take off and put back on shoes and socks at every crossing. We will have time to change into dry footwear after the last crossing, after about 4.5 - 5 miles along the creek

This hike will cover over ten miles in Pisgah National Forest just east of Jonas Ridge, NC. Along the hike we will come upon three waterfalls (North Harper Creek Falls, Chestnut Cove Branch Falls and Bard Falls) not commonly visited by hikers. Also, we will hike along and to the Little Cost Cove Cliffs and the Darkside Cliffs. (included for those of you who like getting in touch with the dark side). Both vistas are gorgeous.

Elevations for the hike:

Start at 3175', Junction of FR 464 and FR 58.

Descend gradually to Lowest elevation 2120' at Bard Falls.

Ascend gradually to Highest elevation 3400' at Little Lost Cove Cliffs.

Descend to Start at 3175', Junction of FR 464 and FR 58.

Darkside Cliffs Trail has a gain/loss of 300'.

Bard Falls has replaced Little Lost Cove Creek Falls on this hike. Bard Falls is along our route and has a fine pool for lounging at the base.

Bring a lunch and snacks. We will picnic along the trails.

Dogs are welcome, and must be leashed per national park regulations.
