This event is open to all levels of backpackers/hikers wanting to up their training and/or get ready for a trip.
We will go over gear and clothes required for a beginner backpack trip for the 1st half hour or so. Then we will do a training hike. You can bring a pack, or just hike with us. If you don`t have any gear and just want to know more about it, come on!! You can wear tennis shoes and carry a water bottle for this hike.
We will hike about 3.5 to 7 miles at Crowders mountain up the Tower Trail. It is 3.5 miles for 1 trip. If enough interest and time allowing we can do a second loop.
The amount of weight you need depends on your level. Feel free to chicken me if you need help with your pack and the weight.
Treking poles will help with the descents, if you are carrying a weighted pack.
Bring enough food and water for about 2.5 to 4 hours on the mountain.
We can also look at the "Practice Wall" when we reach the summit of Crowders. It is where the beginner rock climbing events are held (or you can attend the beginner session at 8am, and then meet me in parking lot at noon). I can help you out with most questions you have on rock climbing and maybe answer a few on ice climbing and mountaineering, but I am NEW at those.
